Programs for Olim Students

Mrs. Chaviva Julius is the Ulpan teacher and coordinator of all of the services provided for the Olim with in the school,

Ulpan– Mrs. Julius works with the students on acquisition of the Hebrew language. Emphasis is placed upon Vocabulary, Grammar and Speech. Students are pulled out of previously agreed upon classes for the lessons. In addition, Mrs. Julius serves as a go between for the parents, the student and the school, helping to ease the natural difficulties of adjusting to a new environment, language and culture. This service is sponsored by the Misrad Haklita and is free of charge.

Hakshiva Tutoring program– In house tutoring program- run by the Hakshiva organization of Ramat Beit Shemesh.  The Hakshiva teacher works one on one with the students on their schoolwork preparing them before their lessons and helping them with homework and tests.  The teachers are American/Israeli and can communicate with the girls in both languages. Students are pulled out of previously agreed upon classes for these lessons. Olim students are required to register for two hours a week for the first year, as we have seen that this support helps to ensure a smooth transition. There is a charge for this service.

“Yael” Program– This program is sponsored by the Ministry of Absorption. Target group- students in 2nd through 6th grades who have made Aliyah within the last 2-10 years. The students work in a small group setting to further strengthen their Hebrew language skills.  “Yael” sessions take place during and after school -in the school building.  (Note: the Yael Program is offered to two different grades each year)

“Pele” Program– Sponsored by the Matnas/Community center. Target group- Students in 7th and 8th   grades who have made Aliyah within the last 2-10 years. Students work in a small group setting to further strengthen their Hebrew language skills.  “Pele” classes take place during and after school hours in the school building. Hot lunch is provided.

Buddy Program– The Oleh student is paired with an English-speaking student in her class who will be with her to help explain what the teacher is saying.  Mrs. Julius arranges a special “get together” before the school year begins for all the buddies, which includes a tour around the school building.  This helps the new Olah to feel more comfortable and secure on those critical first days of school.
